Damoo Dhotre is one of the most popular Indian Ring Masters of all time. Born to a poor family in Pune in 1902, he joined Isako's Russian Circus as a proprietor. In 1939, he moved to France with the Bertram Mills Circus and then on to the world famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in USA.

Their show was known as "The Greatest Show on Earth". He later went on to serve in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He came to be known as the "Wild Animal Man" and was granted US citizenship in 1960. However, he returned back to Pune after serving in the Circus Industry for 40 years and breathed his last in 1973.

Dhotre's work resonated with audiences around the world, who were captivated by his seemingly magical connection with animals. He performed in prestigious circuses throughout Europe and Asia, earning him the nickname "The Wizard of Whispers" and solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest animal trainers of his time.

While the term "the greatest show on earth" was most famously associated with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, it's certainly fitting to describe Dhotre's own shows as well. His unique approach to animal training, which emphasized mutual respect and understanding rather than force or coercion, offered a truly awe-inspiring spectacle that transcended traditional circus acts.

Dhotre's legacy extends beyond the entertainment value of his shows. He played a significant role in raising awareness about animal welfare and advocating for more humane treatment in circuses and zoos. His methods, which focused on positive reinforcement and building trust with animals, paved the way for a more progressive approach to animal training that continues to influence the field today.
